The Jurf al-Sakhar Massacre
After Iraqi forces and allied militias Alleged that it retook the town of Jurf al-Sakhar from ISIS in late 2014, what followed raised serious human rights concerns. Entire Sunni communities were massacred and displaced and barred from returning. Allegations emerged of mass executions, enforced disappearances, and the discovery of secret mass graves—reportedly carried out by armed groups affiliated with the Popular Mobilization Forces.
Despite repeated pleas from families and rights groups, the government has failed to investigate. To this day, Jurf al-Sakhar remains a closed zone, shrouded in silence and fear—its people still waiting for justice.
